The STEM Excellence award

The ENEN2plus STEM Excellence Award is granted to secondary school teachers for an outstanding initiative promoting STEM in general and nuclear specifically at secondary school level.

The initiative promoting STEM can be (list not exhaustive) an in-house designed school trip, custom made teaching materials, cross-curricular or cross-disciplinary school project, educational videos, serious (board) game, …

Teachers who made initiatives to promote STEM can be nominated by:

  • Fellow teachers and other school staff;
  • Pupils and/or their parents;
  • National agencies such as national nuclear agencies, teacher associations, …

Nominees should be:

  • Active teachers at secondary school level;
  • Driving force behind an initiative to promote STEM at secondary school level;
  • Able to participate to the four-day IAEA-ENEN2plus teachers’ workshop from 1-4 April, 2025 in Vienna (Austria). More detailed info will be made available to finalists.

All applications are going to be judged by the jury members based on the following criteria:

  • Teaching excellence (subject mastery, use of innovative, effective, and engaging didactic methods, proven improved student outcomes, …);
  • Innovation and creativity;
  • Impact on students (inspiration, inclusivity, …);
  • Sustainability and Scalability of initiative;
  • Evidence and documentation;
  • Community engagement and collaboration with partners;
  • Relevance to nuclear science and technology.

Timeline

  • Call deadline: February 14, 2025;
  • Selection of finalist by jury: week of 17 February, 2025;
  • Notification of finalists: February 24, 2025 the latest;
  • Teacher workshop for finalists with award ceremony: April 1-4, 2025.

Financial Support

  • Selected finalists will receive financial support for their travel expenses.
  • Laureates will receive monetary awards.
